While the only purpose of this blogger account is to allow me to post on my favorite blogs (ok, just White Diamond's blog...), a friend looked it over and told me I needed more clarification on the musician thing. Apparently, anypony that's played a guitar simulator on an xbox or iphone calls themselves a musician nowadays.
My calling (or so I thought) was to the bass guitar. The rumble, the earth-moving power, the fuse-blowing amount of wattage needed to transform the trebly noise of a guitar and drums into a soul inspiring event. My main instrument is a '95 fender 4-string jazz bass; a factory fluke, it's neck is far thinner than any of it's kin and a perfect match for my small stature. We've played together so much, it's voice has become a part of my style, a booming 'wall of sound' method. Droning low ends with subtle octaves and walks.
Also in my selection are a fretless jazz bass that I can use quite effectively, especially in styles one wouldn't expect to see a fretless, as well as a 5-string ibanez bass. The 5-string is very nice, a model only 100 were made of, but I never found myself using it as much as the other two. I had a very nice shortscale mustang bass too, but had to sell it for tuition and food. I miss that one dearly.
Regardless, 15 years of practice and multiple bands amount to nothing in this present age. A child with a usb keyboard and a computer can produce full albums within days, while four man bands struggle to unite long enough to compile a five song demo.
And I think I've already accomplished the clarification I set out to establish. I'm a musician of the old ways. I've learned the methods of the elder tech; analog waves riding along hundreds of electrical watts, pushing against ohms of the purest metal wiring to move the air and the very earth we stand upon. It was fun while it lasted.
But, I've found new inspiration in the oddest of places, one that'll lead me far away from my past endeavors. However I'm quite happy with this recent turn of inspiration, and it's time for this 'old-dog' to try one last, new trick.
I find it hilarious that you came back after such a long time just to insult me. Lol.
